Visa & Work Permit
EMPLOYMENT VISA PROCESS
Getting a work visa for UAE involves several clear steps that your employer handles:
STEP 1 β JOB OFFER
Secure a job offer from a UAE-based employer (your sponsor). Never pay an agent to 'get you a job' β this is often a scam.
STEP 2 β EMPLOYMENT ENTRY PERMIT
Your employer applies to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) for an Employment Entry Permit. This is done online by the employer.
STEP 3 β MEDICAL FITNESS TEST
Upon arrival in UAE, you must pass a medical fitness test (blood test for infectious diseases, chest X-ray for TB). Done at government-approved centers. Cost: approx AED 300β400.
STEP 4 β EMIRATES ID
Apply for Emirates ID through the Federal Authority for Identity & Citizenship (ICA). Biometrics taken. Cost: approx AED 100β200. Valid for 2β3 years.
STEP 5 β RESIDENCE VISA STAMPED
Your employer stamps the residence visa into your passport. This is your legal authorization to live and work in UAE.
STEP 6 β LABOUR CONTRACT
You must receive and sign a Standard Employment Contract (bilingual) from MOHRE before starting work.
FREE ZONE VS MAINLAND
β’ Mainland: Can work anywhere in UAE. MOHRE regulated.
β’ Free Zone (DIFC, JAFZA, etc.): Work permit within free zone only. Different regulations.
IMPORTANT β KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
β’ Your employer cannot hold your passport (it's illegal)
β’ You are entitled to Annual Leave: 30 days after 1 year
β’ Gratuity: 21 days per year for first 5 years, 30 days per year after
β’ End of Service Gratuity (EOSG) is mandatory
β’ If employer doesn't pay β file complaint at MOHRE (800-MOHRE)
NEW VISA REFORMS
β’ 5-year Green Visa for skilled workers
β’ 10-year Golden Visa for highly skilled
β’ Freelance Permit available for self-employed
β’ UAE has officially abolished the need for No Objection Certificate (NOC) from previous employer for most categories
