How do I transfer my UAE work visa to a new employer without losing my status?
VisaI have been working in Dubai for 3 years as a software engineer. My current employer is great but I've received an offer from a bigger company with much better salary. I want to switch but I'm nervous about my visa status. My current visa has 1.5 years left.
Can I transfer my visa? Do I need an NOC from my current employer? Will there be a ban? I heard the new law removed the ban system but I'm not 100% sure. Please help — any experienced person in UAE can advise?

Great news — the rules have changed significantly! As of 2022, UAE has made it much easier to change jobs. Here's what you need to know:
1. NO BAN for most employees who complete their contract or have been employed for more than 6 months (for limited contracts).
2. NOC (No Objection Certificate) is NOT required in most cases under the new UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021).
3. The process: Your new employer applies for a work permit. You get an entry permit, cancel your old visa, and get a new one.
4. Your current employer will cancel your visa (they're obligated to do so promptly after your last working day).
5. IMPORTANT: Check your contract — if you're on an unlimited contract, you generally need to give notice (30–90 days as specified).
I went through this last year. Took about 2 weeks total. No issues!

Adding to the above — make sure you have:
- A copy of your current employment contract
- Your Emirates ID (valid or recently expired is fine)
- Your passport (cancel old residence visa in it)
The new company's PRO will handle most of the paperwork. I'd also recommend checking the MOHRE website (mohre.gov.ae) where you can verify your employment history and contract details online using your Emirates ID. It's a great tool.
