What happens if I overstay my UAE visa? I'm worried about my cousin's situation.

Visa
My cousin came to UAE on a visit visa 3 months ago (valid for 60 days). He was trying to find a job and kept thinking he'd sort it out. Now he's overstayed by 35 days. He's afraid to leave or go to immigration. What are the consequences and what should he do?

This is a stressful situation but it's manageable. Do NOT panic or hide — it gets worse with more days. OVERSTAY FINE (UAE 2024): • AED 200 for the first day • AED 100 per day for every additional day • Plus AED 100 grace period fee • 35 days overstay = approx AED 200 + (34 × AED 100) = AED 3,600 He needs to: 1. GO TO IMMIGRATION (GDRFA) at the nearest office — they are used to this, not aggressive 2. OR go to an AMES (Authorized Medical Examination Service) — same process 3. Pay the fine 4. Depart VOLUNTARILY — this is CRITICAL. If he departs voluntarily, there is typically NO travel ban (for first-time minor overstay) 5. If caught randomly, they WILL deport and there WILL be a ban PROCESS: • Go to GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs) with passport • They calculate fine • He pays, gets clearance, leaves UAE normally • Can re-enter in future Please advise him to go TODAY or tomorrow. Every extra day = AED 100 more fine AND increases risk of being caught randomly.
