Safety Officer salary expectations in Qatar — what should I negotiate?

Jobs
I currently earn QAR 5,500 as a Safety Officer in Qatar's oil and gas sector. I have 7 years experience, NEBOSH IGC and IOSH certifications. My contract renewal is in 3 months and I want to negotiate better. What is the going rate for someone with my profile in Qatar? Should I push for QAR 7,000? My company also provides accommodation, transport and medical — so I'm comparing against packages with those included. Any HSE professionals or people who know this sector, please advise!

I know some guys in Qatar HSE from our Colombo network. Current range for your profile with accommodation included in the package: - Accommodation included: QAR 6,500–8,000 basic - Accommodation separate/self-sourced: QAR 8,000–11,000 basic Your QAR 5,500 with full benefits (accommodation + transport + medical) is not terrible but definitely on the lower end for 7 years O&G experience. Push for at least QAR 7,000.

Update for everyone: negotiated to QAR 6,800 basic — not quite QAR 7,000 but much better than before. Company also added 10% of basic as annual performance bonus. Happy with the outcome! Starting NEBOSH Diploma part-time as Asela suggested. Thanks all! 🎉

Saman here — civil engineer in Saudi, not oil & gas but I know the compensation landscape. For Qatar O&G with NEBOSH IGC + 7 years, QAR 7,000–8,500 basic is absolutely the market rate, especially if accommodation and transport are separate. Your current QAR 5,500 sounds below market. You should definitely negotiate. My suggestion: get a competing offer first (even one you wouldn't take) to use as leverage. Companies respond much faster when they know you have alternatives.

Also consider adding NEBOSH Diploma to your credentials if you don't have it yet — that alone can bump salary by QAR 1,000–1,500 in Qatar and UAE. IOSH is good but Diploma level really sets you apart for senior/lead HSE roles.
