Sharjah vs Dubai for a teacher's family life — school options, traffic, cost comparison?

Other
I teach in Sharjah and am about to bring my husband and daughter to UAE. My school is in Sharjah (Al-Majaz area) so living in Sharjah makes sense but my husband is looking at jobs in Dubai since more opportunities there. Questions: 1. How bad is the Sharjah-Dubai commute for my husband if he works in Dubai Media City or Deira? 2. Good affordable schools for a 7-year-old in Sharjah? English curriculum? 3. Overall cost of living comparison — rent specifically? We have a combined budget of AED 12,000/month (my income + expected husband income).

This is the classic UAE expat debate! Here's the real honest picture: **Sharjah-Dubai Commute:** - Al Majaz (Sharjah) to Dubai Media City: 35–45 mins in off-peak, 75–100 mins in peak (7:30–9:30am is brutal on Sheikh Zayed Road bridge). It's the most congested crossing in UAE. - Al Majaz to Deira Dubai: 20–30 mins (much better, closer border crossing via Ittihad Road) - If husband works in Deira or Bur Dubai: totally manageable from Sharjah. Media City would be painful. **Schools in Sharjah (English, affordable):** - Sharjah Indian School (CBSE, very affordable ~AED 7,000–8,500/year, long waitlist) - Delhi Private School Sharjah (CBSE, similar range) - GEMS Millennium School Sharjah (British curriculum, AED 15,000–20,000/year) - Beaconhouse Schools Sharjah (British/IB, mid-range) **Rent comparison:** - Sharjah (Al Majaz, Al Khan): 2-bedroom flat AED 35,000–45,000/year - Dubai equivalent: AED 70,000–90,000/year Your AED 12,000/month budget is very comfortable in Sharjah. You'd be tight in Dubai.

Decided to stay in Al Majaz (already renting here). Husband found a job in Deira which is great — the commute is very manageable as Kamal said. Daughter got into Delhi Private School Sharjah. Everything is falling into place! Thank you so much! 🌟

Living in Abu Dhabi but visited Sharjah friends many times. Al Taawun and Al Mamzar areas are great alternatives in Sharjah — closer to the Dubai border which cuts the commute significantly. Many teachers families settle in those areas specifically for that reason.
