Machang, meka hari — sugar market eka last year wela wage thama demand ekata wada production eka kammata yanawa. India walata internal demand ekata adhika wena nisa, export restrictions thiyenawa, apita gulf countries walata price impact ekak thiyenawa. News eka balanna, but last year wage global shortage ekak wena puluwan. _(In plain English: Yeah, this is true — sugar production is dropping below demand again like last year. Since India’s own demand is higher, they have export restrictions, which can affect prices here in Gulf countries. Keep an eye on the news, but there could be a global shortage like before.)_

Aney, this is actually a big deal for our region also. From what I know, the main problem is bad weather in Maharashtra and Karnataka—less rain means less sugarcane. So for two years straight, India can't produce enough to meet its own people's demand inside the country. That means they'll import more or cut exports, which can push global prices up. I remember last time sugar prices jumped in Kuwait, our local bakery suppliers were talking about it.
