What is the process to bring my family (wife and 2 kids) to Oman on dependent visa?

Visa
I've been in Muscat for 18 months now as a construction foreman. My salary is OMR 550/month. I miss my family terribly. Is my salary enough to sponsor them? What documents do I need? How long does it take? Any approximate costs?

Great that you're planning this! Family reunification in Oman is very possible. Here's the complete picture: SALARY REQUIREMENT: For family sponsorship in Oman, there's no officially fixed minimum but in practice: • 1 dependent: OMR 350+ usually accepted • Wife + 2 children: OMR 500-600+ is generally required Your OMR 550 should be sufficient — though the officer has some discretion. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: • Your valid Residence Card (Iqama) • Original Marriage Certificate (authenticated by Sri Lanka MOFA + Oman Embassy in Colombo) • Children's Birth Certificates (similarly authenticated) • Children's school reports (for school-aged kids) • Medical fitness certificates for wife and children (done in Oman after arrival) • Your employment contract and bank statements (last 3 months) PROCESS: 1. Apply through Royal Oman Police (ROP) portal: expat.rop.gov.om 2. Pay application fee: approx OMR 20-30 per dependent 3. Entry visa issued (valid 1 month to arrange residence) 4. They arrive, complete medicals, get Residence Cards TIME: 2-4 weeks for visa approval once documents submitted. Then 2-3 weeks for full Residence Cards after arrival. SCHOOLS: International schools in Muscat have affordable options. Some accept mid-year admissions. Total cost for first year including documents, fees, medicals: approx OMR 400-600.

One important tip: Get the authentication done IN ADVANCE in Sri Lanka before you apply. The Sri Lanka MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) attestation + apostille takes about 2 weeks in Colombo. Then get the Oman Embassy in Colombo to authenticate. This step cannot be skipped and is the biggest delay for most people. Ask someone in Sri Lanka to start this process while you prepare the Oman side documents simultaneously.
