Qatar worker's minimum wage — what does it include? My employer keeps deducting.
LegalQatar announced a minimum wage of QAR 1,000 per month with QAR 500 food allowance and QAR 500 accommodation allowance. But my employer is giving me only QAR 1,500 total and saying the accommodation and food are 'included.' Is this legal? My contract says QAR 1,500.

This is a very common issue and there's a clear answer. Qatar's minimum wage breakdown is:
• QAR 1,000 — basic wage
• QAR 500 — food allowance (IF employer doesn't provide meals)
• QAR 500 — accommodation allowance (IF employer doesn't provide housing)
KEY INTERPRETATION:
If your employer PROVIDES accommodation (you live in company housing) — they don't need to pay the QAR 500 accommodation allowance.
If your employer PROVIDES food (cafeteria, daily meals) — they don't need to pay the QAR 500 food allowance.
BUT if they provide neither and still pay only QAR 1,500 calling it 'all included' — this MAY be compliant IF the QAR 1,500 covers basic + both allowances (1,000 + 500 = 1,500 without food, but not 1,000 + 500 + 500 = 2,000).
YOUR SITUATION: If you have NO employer-provided accommodation AND NO employer-provided meals, your total should be QAR 2,000. QAR 1,500 would be a violation.
WHAT TO DO:
1. Review your contract carefully — what does it say about accommodation and food?
2. If violating: File complaint at Ministry of Labour: 16008 or adlsa.gov.qa
